Town Hall on Future of State Parks Set for Nov. 15 in San Rafael

A town Hall meeting is set for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in San Rafael to discuss the future of the California state parks system, including soon-to-be-closed China Camp in San Rafael and the two saved parks at Samuel P Taylor and Tomales Bay.

Assemblyman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael), Marin Community Foundation President & CEO Thomas Peters, and the Marin Open Parks Coalition will host the event, set up to provide an update on pending park closures and explore strategies for keeping parks in Marin County and Sonoma County open in the short and long term.

Huffman, who represents San Anselmo and Fairfax in the state Capitol, chairs the state Assembly's Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and also serves as co-chair of the Legislative Environmental Caucus.

The state plans to close 70 state parks in 2012 because of the budget crisis, including four in Marin. Despite private and public efforts to save the parks, including the National Park Service's decision to keep open Tomales Bay and Samuel P. Taylor, which border federal lands, dozens of parks remain on the chopping block.

The town hall is to take place at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, 200 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael.

Why did it take so long for Jared Huffman to get around to trying to save our state parks. He's chair of the Parks Committee in the Assembly yet did nothing to prevent this wrongheaded proposal. In fact he voted for the budget that shut the state parks. A cynic would say he was looking for an issue to thump while he runs for Congress.

Dear "Sally Kamp" -- so nice to hear from you again! After you set up that fake Facebook account and started attacking Jared Huffman anonymously, only to be "outed" by all of the Facebook users who realized you aren't real and are shilling for one of Huffman's opponents, you seemed to disappear. Great that you're back, shilling away. Please give my best regards to Susan.
