Art from the farm with your coffee

Art on the Farm showcases preview of fundraiser at the Marin Coffee Roasters.

Though there are always paintings hanging on the walls of the Marin Coffee Roasters in San Anselmo, a special collection of new paintings was hung in the back earlier this week.

The small paintings hung along the side wall in the back is part of a preview showing for Art on the Farm's upcoming fundraiser on Oct. 24 at the Point Reyes Winery

Art on the Farm is exactly it sounds like: art on the farms around West Marin.

Anyone can join the group, which visits Marin Organic farms to paint and a portion of the sale of those paintings goes to the Marin Organic Loan Fund. The fund provides interest-free loans to farmers.

"It would be great to see some younger artists get involved," said San Anselmo painter Colleen Proppe.

The group is showcasing a number of paintings at the Marin Coffee Roasters from the more than 100 artists who work with Art on the Farm. The paintings show scenes of livestock, farms, and landscapes throughout Marin from local artists, including Proppe and Fairfax artist Kate Peper.

And if you enjoy the paintings the coffee shop, then you'll love the paintings at the fundraiser on Oct. 24.

The fundraiser show is free and the public is welcome to wander the grounds, picnic, and enjoy the view overlooking Tomales Bay. There is also a small amount of oysters and grass-fed beef available for donation, and the paintings are hung on hay bales and fences.

"It's very unique," said Proppe.

San Anselmo resident, Dianne Zellers, will also be volunteering her acoustic jazz guitar and singing at the show.

Fifty percent of the sales at the show will go to the interest-free loan program.

The fundraiser show takes place Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the sampling of paintings can be viewed in the Marin Coffee Roasters any time the coffee shop is open. Get more information at the Art on the Farm blog.
