Three incumbents and one newcomer won the four seats on the College of Marin board in Tuesday’s election, and the leading vote-getter surmised that voters are happy with the board’s work after a period of tumult.
“This was a wonderful vote of confidence of the important work we’re doing and which needs to be done,” said incumbent Eva Long, who earned her fourth term on the board. “This was a very solid group of candidates.”
Seven candidates sought the four open seats on the board. Long, 69, was joined by 51-year-old San Rafael accountant Philip Kranenberg and 55-year-old former Dominican University and College of Marin chemistry professor James Namnath as incumbents who were re-elected.
The trio was joined by Lagunitas School District trustee Stephanie O’Brien, who served three terms on that board.
Long garnered the most votes with 23,967, or 20 percent of the vote, followed by Kranenberg at 22,118 (18.5 percent) and O’Brien 21,404 (17.9 percent). Namnath landed in fourth place with 18,356 votes, or 15.3 percent.
Left on the outside looking in were challengers Joan Lisetor, a Sausalito writer and video producer; Sausalito artist Peter Romanowsky; and San Rafael real estate agent Jack Wilkinson. Incumbent Carole Hayashino did not seek re-election.
“All of the candidates that ran were wonderful people with many strengths and I would have been very happy to serve with any one of them,” Long said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
