It's rare for a Presidential candidate to come to a small town in Northern California, but when that town has the only Green Party majority council in the country it's a must stop for Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
Stein, a physician who ran for Secretary of State of Massachusetts and won the most votes ever for a Green-Rainbow Party, will be at the Sleeping Lady from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Dec. 1, as part of her tour of California this week.
Though the event is advertised as a fundraiser, it's a free gathering that will also feature music from Eliza Rickman.
Stein, who is emphasizing a Green New Deal in her campaign and led a successful renewable energy initiative in Massachusetts, has spent her week in California attending Occupy events, including the kick-off event in Napa yesterday, Occupy Oakland, San Franicsco, and Santa Cruz.
The event in Fairfax will also be a chance to talk to new Fairfax Mayor Pam Hartwell-Herrero and outgoing Mayor Larry Bragman, both of the Green Party.
"Jill Stein's candidacy may help shift the mainstream political debate from talking points to reality," said Bragman by email.

I'm a green party member but at this point I think running candidates in national elections is quite simply a waste of everyone's time and energy.
The one thing that must change in order for minority party candidates to have a realistic chance to shape the debate nationally is to enact a mandatory public financing scheme for national elections (Congressional and Presidential elections). Absent that change it's impossible for minority party candidates seeking national office to make any kind of impact whatsoever. I think the Green Party should make mandatory public financing of national elections the centerpiece of their platform and not try to run national candidates for office until it's done.
