New White Hill Design

Plans approved for middle school.

After discussion from teachers, parents, community members and even some students, the Board approved a set of plans for new classrooms at during a special workshop on Oct. 18.

Those plans, which can be viewed at right, will now be used by WRNS Architects to create detailed drawings to submit to the state for approval and state funds.

Also available at right is the White Hill Middle School Initial Study and Negative Mitigation Declaration, which includes a detailed analysis of the proposed construction.

The new classrooms at White Hill will include a net addition of 35,243 gross square feet  and nine new classrooms -- including an art classroom/learning center, performing arts classroom, and a new gymnasium. The proposal also will have two new two-story buildings with one-story wings, and a separate one-story gym.

The board also agreed that a similiarly collaborative process should be utilized on the other campuses, starting with the Brookside designs. The final plans for White Hill were settled upon after input from teachers, parents, staff and community neighbors. Teachers with different all worked collectively to decide what would work best and within budget.

"The bottom line is this – we are looking at state of the art buildings that will truly support 21st century learning for years to come," said White Hill Principal David Finnane in his weekly Wildcat Wrap.
