Protests, Arrests and Bribes!

Oh My!

Protests!

I rode my scooter down to San Rafael this afternoon to check out all the hulabaloo around the California Govenor's debate at Dominican. (Check out the live updates Kelly had going throughout the thing.) What a hoot with everyone hollering! "No Megusta!" "Shame on you, Brown!" "Open the Debate!"

I was really there to check in with the Fairfax members of the Green Party and see their candidate, Laura Wells. These supporters were protesting that she wasn't included in the debate, some wearing green masks across their mouths and just about everyone was in a green shirt.

The Fairfax Vice Mayor Larry Bragman and his wife were there. "Just want a real, open debate with all parties. More choices and more voices. Especially now," he said.

And Arrests!

Turns out I missed all the excitement, though! After I headed back home to make dinner I missed Well's arrest! Apparently, even though she couldn't be a part of the debate, she had a ticket for a seat in the audience, but was refused entry per regulations around her being a candidate.

All reports show she left quietly once arrested.

Witch Bribes Town Council

After dinner, I scooted down to observe the San Anselmo Town Counsel meeting and a committee member disguised in full witch costume presented the Goblins' Parade specifics for final approval.  She then proceeded to pass out candy before the final vote was held.  Her powers were strong and the Goblins' Parade is approved and will proceed on Wednesday, Oct. 27.  Wish candy worked so easily in other ways!

Tea with Kay

I enjoyed a two hour cup of tea with council member Kay Colman this morning. What a delightful and incredible woman! She spent over ten years as San Anslemo's Volunteer Coordinator and now sits on the council. She recently spent time in San Diego at the Legue of California Cities Convention and came back invigorated and filled with more ideas and ways to make our community even better. Can't cover the whole conversation here, but will fill you all in as the days go by, promise!

It's a Tie

The vote was 2-2 at the town council meeting over the moratorium on the smart meter installation by PG&E. Many passionate speakers, sound council opinions and a lot of lawyer speak that went over my head. Interesting none the less, but a little late in the evening to retain it all. Thankfully, we have Patch to write about it all!

Any SFD Solutions Ahead?

At last night's meeting there was a lot of talk about the heavy traffic burden on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between the Hub and Butterfield Road. Surveys, meetings, and research all conclude that this stretch of road was simply not built for the incredible amount of traffic that it now sees daily. Something like 3,500 automobiles travel in each direction every day and even though 85 percent of those drivers are following the 30MPH speed limit, if you've ever walked on the Boulevard you know it feels like it's going a whole lot faster.

Great comment by Kay Coleman: "Now that we've heard all of the problems, what are we going to do to solve this issue?"

Unfortunately, no solution is ideal and, therefore, nothing is going to happen immediately. More studies and more meetings will certainly be scheduled.

Having once lived in a house that backed up against SFD I can honestly say I don't miss it at all. It was a crazy street to have to listen to all day long and the idea of walking along it or pulling out into it was always a nightmare.

Craving a Donut

While walking around yesterday I popped into the Royal Sweet Bakery because of the beautiful artwork on display. Noel Stubblefield is featured at the moment thanks to the Artisan's Art Gallery in San Rafael, and I found myself drawn into the shop because of her beautiful work.  And, now that I have finished my 6:30 a.m. boot camp work out, packed off my third-grader to school, and find myself writing about the bakery, I am craving a donut.

Think I'll head downtown in a moment for a cream-filled, or an old fashioned, actually a chocolate sounds good, ooh, but what about those cinnamon twists...

Choices, choices! Calories, calories!

Speaking of Choices without Calories

I stopped in and spoke with Marnie Delaney, owner of Doodlebug, yesterday and learned that the reason I don't see her in her delightful shop as much anymore is because she is out sharing her skills throughout the community, on top of all the great things offered at the store.  Talk about an incredible woman, so generous, so creative, so kind! So glad she left the corporate world to open Doodlebug for us!

Did you know that Doodlebug has classes for just about everyone for everything? Sewing, stitching, clay, pottery, painting, knitting, and more! And classes are held at all sorts of times, day and evening: Date Night on Fridays and late hours where folks can bring a bit of a picnic and work on their crafts. I'm grabbing a paint brush and heading over soon! Right after that donut...
