Protests Outside CPUC Over Smart Meters

This past Friday, , which featured Mayor Larry Bragman, Joshua Hart, founding director of StopSmartMeters.org, Layna Berman and Jeffrey Fawcett of Your Own Health and Fitness radio show, and Katharina Sandizell, founder of the West Marin Alliance for Humane and Environmental Health.

Many critics of PG&E's wireless, digital Smart Meters -- including a number of Fairfax residents -- are protesting today outside the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco.

The CPUC is holding a workshop today on in response to  opposition to the wireless meters that read and electronically transmit data on natural gas and electric power usage at homes and businesses.

Opponents of the meters have criticized the security, privacy and of the wireless transmission system. Critics have also argued that the devices emit harmful radiation, and blame the meters for "thousands of reports of adverse health effects," StopSmartMeters.Org director Joshua Hart said in a statement.

Hart said he and others, including Fairfax Mayor Larry Bragman and
Californians for Renewable Energy President Michael Boyd, will rally outside the CPUC building on Van Ness Avenue this afternoon.
