Three girls and two boys from Drake High’s powerful water polo teams were voted All-Marin County Athletic League first-team distinctions when the league announced its awards for fall sports this week.
Nina Wheeler, Lauren Emgee and Meghan Christie all garnered first-team honors off the girls team that won the MCAL championship. For Wheeler, it was her second consecutive season on the first team.
Quinn Galli was selected to the second team, while Brookie Hollander and goalie Isabel Kinsolving claimed honorable-mention spots.
For Drake’s boys team, the MCAL’s regular-season champs, Mitch Young, a repeat selection, and Matt Potter claimed first-team spots. Will Sale and David Ross were placed on the second team.
Pirates volleyball standout Melanie Stoner earned All-MCAL first-team honors for the second consecutive season, joining teammate Audrey Freeman on the first team. Sofie Merrifield claimed an honorable-mention spot.
Six Pirates were honored in football, but none on the first team. Quarterback Andrew Brown, wide receiver Ross Mac Ausland, offensive lineman Nick Massucco, kicker Matt Acord and defensive back Bryan Bostjancic were selected to the all-league second team, while linebacker Sterling Champagne was got an honorable-mention spot.
Midfielder Ian Slaughter was a second-team selection in soccer, while Molly Carmody earned an honorable-mention distinction in tennis.
