Supervisors Issue Statement over Lucasfilm Withdrawal

The following statement was made on Wednesday, April 11th, in response to Skywalker Properties’ decision to withdraw its application for a digital media production facility at Grady Ranch on Lucas Valley Road in San Rafael:

County Expresses Disappointment Over Withdrawal of Grady Ranch Proposal

The Marin County Board of Supervisors is deeply disappointed that Skywalker Properties has withdrawn its application to proceed with its plans for Grady Ranch, originally approved by the Board of Supervisors in 1997. More recently, the project was unanimously recommended for Board approval by the County Planning Commission and a parade of appreciative community members and businesses. While our Board delayed final action at the applicant’s request to allow them to review a last minute legal threat raised by neighbors, Board members universally praised the applicant’s strong track record of environmental stewardship, excellent design, quality jobs, and civic generosity.

Immediately upon learning of Skywalker Properties’ decision, our Board reached out, encouraging them to reconsider and offering County support needed to complete the approval process and move forward with construction. We recognize the important opportunity this project represents for our community and will continue to work towards its realization.
