What Do You Think of the New Good Earth Building?

Project gets approved by Planning Commission Thursday night.

Last night, Thursday, the Planning Commission approved the proposal for the new Good Earth store to move into the empty Albertson's building on a 6-0 vote (with Shelby Lamont, who's the landscape architect on the project, recusing herself).

At right, you can see a rendering of what the new store will look like.

The whole proposal, which can be read here, includes an outdoor dining area, a clerestory, a cyclist rest stop area and an electric charge charging station. Right now, the public is invited to give comments and input on the proposal, fully available at the town hall.

The store, and outdoor dining area, will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The traffic impact report suggests that traffic will not make the intersection unmanageable. However, if a traffic signal is needed at the Center Boulevard and Pastori Avenue intersection in the future, Good Earth will be required to pay their share of that light.

The project will now go before the Fairfax Town Council at either the May 4 or June 1 meeting (check our What's on the Agenda posts to find out which meeting it'll be considered at) to approve the declaration as the next step in the review process. The public is invited to give their input. No construction will begin until a building permit is issued, but the new store is still scheduled to open around October of this year.

Looks great. I reminds me a bit of a Whole Foods. Which is good. I like going to Whole Foods, but I hate giving money to John Mackey. This will be better and has great bike access and amenities.

It looks good, but there's still the sea of parking.

Hoping the community supports, with their shopping $, this wonderful improvement. My plea: enhance the parking lot's aesthetics AND utility by installing numerous strategically placed shade trees -- and give their roots a *wide* protected root zone. Install a grey water system from the kitchen to water them.
We are so looking forward to this building's transformation!

The council will consider the proposal either at the May 4 or more likely at the June 1 meeting and is asking for public input right now.

I'm so happy that market is being revived after all these years of languish. I'm more likely to shop at Good Earth in its new location.

Dramatically improved and hats off to owners for sinking so much into cap improvements. But why leave the West facing exterior wall ugly, gray, exposed aggregate? At least, paint it burnt orange to match the color of rest of exterior that was resurfaced. Or is there a plan for massive mural on that wall like on their "old" building? This is only thing re fantastic remodel that seemed odd. Plus, can't wait to see that giant interior fan blade up close. I'm sure the place is gonna be great. What the owners have done to the site is a minor miracle (IMO) for the town.
