Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Where Does the Free Stuff Go?

Head to the park this weekend -- and then the other park.

Free Stuff Simply Disappears

We’ve been doing a major clean out of our house in preparation for getting it on the market for the end of the month and I have been putting things like terra cotta pots, baskets, white boards and other miscellaneous things out on our sidewalk throughout the week with a big FREE sign next to it all. It is amazing how everything disappears and so quickly! I do love seeing things that we no longer need being spared from the landfills.

(Editor's note: Building Official Mark Lockaby actually notified Patch today that there have been a high number of complaints about stuff being put on the sidewalk and labeled free. Much of it is picked up by town staff and, sadly, thrown in the dumpster.)

It’s Good to Be a Girl

But since we can’t simply put construction debris out on the sidewalk, I have been the official dump runner for our house work and I have to say going to the Marin Resource & Recovery Center is not such a bad thing, at least when you’re a girl. I get help even when I don’t need it from the nice workers there, who sweep up after the truck beds have been emptied out and, if I am really lucky, they give the inside of our truck bed a sweep too! My husband says that never happens to him and he’s been taking things there for over 20 years.

Wondering When

Now that the San Anselmo Police have joined forces with the Twin Cities, which is simply brilliant, I am wondering when San Anselmo and the town of Ross will get together to repair Bolinas Avenue. Then again, I don’t really know which town owns that street, but I will guess that since one side is San Anselmo and the other is Ross that the maintenance is shared? Regardless, it is really awful and in need of more than just a few pothole fills.

The same goes for San Francisco Avenue. I wanted to look at a house on the market a few blocks off of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, but turned around after a block and a half having no desire to drive down that bumpy road every day. I know our towns have limited to zero funds, so I don’t want to complain, but considering what we pay in taxes it would be nice to have nice roads around here.

Noisy Crickets

The nights have been downright balmy this past week and the chirping crickets are so loud. It brings back very happy memories of summers in Illinois. Now, if we could just get fireflies out here I could relive my childhood. In the meantime, I’ll take the delightful chirping.

Saturday Plans?

Bring your work gloves and a wheelbarrow if you have one to San Anselmo’s Millennium Park (at Memorial Park) on Saturday morning starting at 8 a.m. to help move tan bark into the playground. It is a great way to give back to our community, see old friends, meet new ones and then take a go on the swings if the mood strikes.

Then head on over to Fairfax’s town park on Sunday and join in on the three-legged races with neighborhoods competing (for fun!) against each other. I wonder if San Anselmo has a color-coded map outlining various neighborhoods with names attached. I think I’ll look into that.

I know where some of the free goes. The big terra cotta pots simply came across the street. Thanks for the good stuff!

A great alternative is to join the freecycling movement in Marin. Learn more/join via our home page at http://www.marincountyfreecycle.org/
