The Importance of Roadway Clearance Ross Valley Fire Department operates specialized fire apparatus that can navigate the narrow streets and hills of our community. Even with these state‐of‐the‐art fire engines, the fire department depends on having roadways clear of obstructions and overgrown vegetation in order to access neighborhoods safely and quickly during emergencies. Cooperation and involvement from homeowners in each hillside neighborhood is critical to prevent obstructions, like illegally parked cars and overgrown vegetation, that impede our access and residents’ safe escape in …

Library Programs Preschool Storytime ‐ Children of three, four, and five are on the threshold of reading. Our interactive preschool stortime, led by new Children's Librarian April Hayley, provides an opportunity for children to spend time with their peers, develop skills in listening, sitting still, and concentrating, and, most importantly, nourishes a love of reading that will last a lifetime. Park/Picnic Site Rentals The Town offers picnic sites that may be reserved. All reservations are processed on a first come, first served basis. NOTE: Some parks do not have restroom facilities. Storm Update Thursday's storm deposited about three inches of rain in San Anselmo, and managed to cause havoc in a number of areas.A sanitary sewer spill on San Rafael Avenue (erroneously reported initially on Bolinas Avenue) was contained after spilling about 10,000 gallons. A tree down on Florence Avenue damaged a car, took down three power poles, and caused a power outage in the neighborhood. A tree service was called to remove the tree and PG&E is working on the lines.A landslide on property on Summit Avenue caused a water main break and a closure of Scenic Avenue. Ross Valley Sanitary District Sewer Grants As property owners, we are responsible for our lateral sewer pipes. They are the pipes that run from homes or businesses to the public sewer mains. Lateral sewer pipes are often damaged by roots, earth settling, or just plain old age. These pipes not only cause dangerous backups, but during storms tremendous amounts of water flow into the public sewer pipes and cause spills. Red Hill Dog Park The volunteers for the Red Hill Dog Park are having a community work day on Saturday, March 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The dog park is located off Shaw Drive, behind the Red Hill Shopping Center. Volunteers are encouraged to stop by and help for as much time as possible, even 15 minutes helps. All volunteers will be entered in a raffle for a Pet Portraiture donated by Creative Portraiture. Community Media Center of Marin The Community Media Center of Marin (CMCM) is a nonprofit organization that was established to produce and distribute a wide range of noncommercial community‐based media programming. This includes facilitating and managing the public, educational and governmental (PEG) cable channels available on local Comcast and AT&T systems. Library Tax Oversight Committee The San Anselmo Town Council is recruiting applicants to serve on the Library Tax Oversight Committee. Measure B, which provides a $49 tax per parcel, was approved by voters in June 2010 to increase open hours, improve children’s services and enhance general library services. The purpose of the oversight committee is to ensure transparency and accountability to the voters by reviewing the collection and expenditure of library tax revenues. New Parking Limits Effective this month, there are some important parking changes to the Magnolia Avenue parking lot. At the request of the town’s business organizations and Economic Development Subcommittee, and with the approval of the town council, the parking meters in the Magnolia lot are now available for four-hour parking. Previously, the limit in this lot was two hours. Increasing the allowable parking time in the Magnolia lot will allow for more downtown shopping time. Looking back at 2010 January: Significant winter storms hit the Bay Area, prompting the town to make sand and sand bags available on Sunny Hill Drive. Twin Cities police dispatch temporarily moved their operation into the San Anselmo Police dispatch center, while their new police facility is under construction. February: The San Anselmo Tennis Club was disbanded after 42 years in existence. Tennis Club members donated over $8,000 to the town to be used for tennis program scholarships and toward resurfacing two of the Memorial Park tennis courts. New Mayor and Vice Mayor Congratulations to Ford Greene, who was elected unanimously as town's 2011 mayor at the town council meeting of Tuesday, Dec. 14. Mayor Greene spoke of his commitment to the special spirit of the San Anselmo community as we move forward into trying financial times.
