It is quickly approaching mid-day on a sunny Sunday and I need to decide on a ride. I want to soak in the sunny heat of summer and I also want to pedal to the trail-head. The lakes of the Marin Municipal Water District offer easy access to sunny summer rides that deliver a great mountain biking experience. This loop is a short spin from cities near Fairfax or Ross. From Fairfax you can join the loop at “Five Corners” via the Deer Park dirt road, but I'll describe the loop starting from Natalie Coffin Greene Park in Ross. The “Twin Cites” of Minneapolis and St. Paul have received a lot of attention since being cited as the top cycling city this year. In Marin, the “Twin Cities” of Larkspur and Corte Madera share at least one common characteristic with their northern twins: abundant bike paths that foster a healthy cycling community. The numerous tight switchbacks and seemingly relentless rocks win many of the battles against those pedaling. The views are nothing spectacular and you will probably be sharing the trails with other riders. Did I mention you must pay the Boy Scouts to …
I've wanted to visit McInnis Park and the adjacent Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District ponds since I first saw the sprawling parks on the Marin County Bicycle Coalition Map. The problem had been getting to the remote location north of China Camp in San Rafael. As my family and I prepared to visit the farmer's market at the Civic Center this Sunday it dawned on me to bring the bikes along for a post-grocery adventure! Today's ride is a tale of two parks. John F. McInnis Park is run by the county and features 450 acres with a myriad of free recreational activities such as multiple athletic …
