About this column:

Gathering news around town and answering the question: hey, what was that?
Marin has no shortage of celebrity sightings, but most of them are famous musicians who live in our own backyard.  We received a number of reports from local residents Saturday that Conan O'Brien, the lanky, red-haired comedian and host of an eponymous late-night talk show on TBS, was seen eating at Comforts on San Anselmo Avenue.  We checked with store officials, who confirmed that the funny man ate lunch there around noon Saturday. They didn't know exactly why O'Brien was in town, nor what he ordered. O'Brien's Twitter account provided no hints either. His latest Tweet, from around 12 p.m. …
Someone graffiti-ed a stop sign on Shady Lane at Southwood, in Ross, just over the border from San Anselmo this weekend. The graffiti reads: "1% we know where you live." The inference of the graffiti is that the 1% lives here. And, they might not be wrong. As the Occupy movement has grown and spread across the country, debates about income inequality have intensified, pitting the 1% of households against the majority of earners -- the 99%. Sharp-eyed reader Martin Mitchell sent in these before and after photos of VW Passat that was hit by a drunk driver. Friday morning, he took a picture of the car after it had been hit so hard by a drunk driver that it was pushed into the Toyota Camry in front of it. According to San Anselmo Police, the incident was a DUI collision and a suspect was arrested.

Let us know what you thought that was all about in the comments or email any odd occurrences to kellyd@patch.com. A disturbance occurred in San Anselmo on Saturday surrounding some political signs and left people wondering what was that all about? According to Det. Cpl. Julie Gorwood, the LaRouche Political Action Committee set up a table on San Anselmo Avenue, near the Wells Fargo. The group has previously tabled outside the Bank of America in Fairfax. A number of …
Sometimes we want to know what was going on with the all the protestors outside the bank or how come there was a giant hole in the middle of the park or have you heard anything about construction at Good Earth? In short: what was that? You all have these questions -- I know, you ask me about them all the time. But, I don't always have the answers. Or, even if we can figure out why there were police with assault rifles in front of Union Bank two weeks ago, the answer isn't always interesting enough to warrant a whole article. [Union Bank was having problems with it's switchboard and twice in …
