The Singers Marin youth ensemble, les étoiles, has just returned from their trip to Cincinnati, where they competed in the 2012 World Choir Games. They are thrilled to be bringing home a silver and bronze medal in their two competition categories: Youth of Equal Voices and Popular Music. Local Ross Valley resident, Natalie Kiss, was among the youth members who participated in the games.
This “Olympic” style event was huge, with over 350 choirs from 68 nations, equaling more than 15,000 participants. There are 28 possible categories of choral music that include: Children, Youth, Women, Men, and Mixed ensembles, as well as the diverse musical styles of Liturgical, Gospel, Popular, Jazz, Folklore, etc. This was the first year the competition was held in the USA. In past years, les étoiles competed in Bremen, Germany and Graz, Austria, taking home a Bronze medal and a silver diploma. This was by far the best they have ever performed!
Now, we are getting ready to build our team for the next World Choir Games to be held in Latvia in 2014. Interested singers should contact the Singers Marin office for an audition, and begin their vocal training for this exciting opportunity.
