MOUNTAIN BIKE MOSAIC DEDICATION AT STREETS FOR PEOPLE

A bit of mountain bike history will be honored at Streets for People on Sunday, August 25.  Architect Morgan Hall designed and coordinated the construction of a bench decorated with a ceramic mosaic depicting famous mountain bikers descending “Repack” fire road, where the first mountain biking race took place in 1976. Myles Babcock was in charge of construction and Quintilia Nylin created the tile art for the walls. The project was funded by the Chamber and through sales of ceramic sprockets and clouds that were permanently affixed to the installation.

The project is now complete, and an official dedication ceremony will kick-off the Streets for People event on Sunday at 11am in front of the bench on Bolinas Road at Mono Alley.  Morgan Hall, Mayor John Reed and the Fairfax Chamber will officiate, Mountain bike legend Otis Guy will say a few words about the exciting move of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame from Crested Butte to the former Good Earth building in Fairfax.

Following the ceremony Streets for People activities will get underway.  Check out the packed schedule here.
