I am your new editor for San Anselmo-Fairfax Patch. I am excited to be here and hope to build on the incredible momentum San Anselmo-Fairfax Patch has going for it, as a strong community force.
My name is Gideon Rubin.
I originally hail from New York City, and I moved to the West Coast to go to school and start my career in journalism.
I completed my undergraduate degree in history from San Francisco State University while getting my journalism career off the ground doing freelance work for several newspapers including the San Mateo Times, the San Francisco Examiner, among others.
After completing my degree, I got my first job as a general assignment reporter at the Goleta Valley Voice, a small weekly newspaper in Santa Barbara County. Within a year I went to the Los Angeles Daily News, where I covered sports for more than six years and hard news for one year.
Many of you will probably recognize my byline. I've been a freelance writer in the Bay Area for the last five years, contributing to publications including ESPN.com, USA TODAY, the Bay Area News Group, and I've served as guest editor at multiple Patch sites throughout the Bay Area.
Patch, which launched its first few sites on the East Coast in 2009, swept into the San Francisco Bay Area in the fall of 2010 with opportunities abound for journalists amid a period of steep decline in the industry.
Having always worked in print, I was thrilled at the idea of getting to expand my skills into online news.
I am excited to be here and can't wait to hit the ground running. From what I've seen, San Anselmo-Fairfax Patch has some wonderful followers, readers and bloggers, and you have an incredible towns.
