A senior living center in Santa Rosa is under voluntary quarantine because of a possible norovirus outbreak, a spokeswoman said today.

The Lodge at Paulin Creek, located at 2375 Range Ave., has closed its dining room and is delivering meals to residents' apartments after an unspecified number of residents came down with a severe stomach illness.

"We've got some people that aren't well," facility spokeswoman Julie Davis said.

The center has taken voluntary precautions to stop the spread of the bug, which may be norovirus, she said. Group activities have been canceled, she said.

"We're trying to protect our residents' health," Davis said.

She said the quarantine at the center, which houses about 200 people, began a few days ago.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach and intestines and is highly contagious. Those infected usually experience stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
