Report: Lucas, S.F. Presidio Trustees, Moving Closer to Museum Deal

But the trustees are pushing the "Star Wars" creator to scale back his proposal.

Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader had all the real estate imaginable to duke it out in their epic battles.

George Lucas is apparently going to have a lot less real estate to work with on his next creation.

The Marin County entertainment mogul’s proposed museum at Crissy Field in San Francisco has gained some momentum, but the Presidio trustees backing the plan are pushing for a scaled back version, the San Francisco Chronicle’s Matier and Ross report.

The proposed Lucas Cultural Arts Museum is among three projects vying for the Presidio Trust’s approval.

The Presidio Exchange proposed by the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the the Bridge/Sustainability Institute, proposed by the Chora Group and WRNS are the others.

Lucas’ proposal would showcase his $1 billion artwork collection, which includes items from his “Star Wars” films along with the works of Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, the report said.

The trustees want Team Lucas to come up with plans for a smaller facility that wouldn’t block views of the Golden Gate Bridge and would allow the competing proposals to sit alongside it on the coveted San Francisco real estate, the report said.

The report said Lucas was open to some of the proposed changes during a meeting with the trustees last week, but said his advisors were pushing back on the deal.
