Anonymous donation must be matched by Saturday

Film Night in the Park hopes to buy new outdoor screen with generous, anonymous donation.

An anonymous donation to Film Night in the Park must be matched by midnight this Saturday so the nonprofit organization can purchase a new outdoor screen for the film showings. The group is calling on local residents to pitch in and help match the generous, anonymous donation.

Film Night in the Park Director Tom Boss, of San Anselmo, said he's hopeful that the new screen can be delivered in time for the last movies of the summer: a 30th anniversary showing of The Empire Strikes Back on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17 and 18, at 8 p.m. at Creek Park.

San Anselmo resident and Academy Award-winning sound designer Ben Burtt will give a special introduction to the screenings this weekend. Burtt is the creator of iconic Star Wars sound effects like R2-D2, the hum of the lightsaber, and Darth Vader's distinctive breathing.

Those hoping to make donations in time to meet the deadline to match the generous, anonymous donation are asked to send checks to Film Night in the Park, A.P.P.L.E. Family Works, 4 Joseph Ct., San Rafael, CA 94903 or bring donations to either screening this weekend.
