Marin Arts Council includes two local artists in its "Artists to Watch" exhibit

On Aug. 4 the Marin Arts Council premiered "UNVEILING: Twelve Artists to Watch in 2011" in its downtown San Rafael gallery. 

Those artists to keep your eye on include two local artists: Rose Steiner, a painter who makes monoprints, and Mary Macey Butler, a photographer.

Steiner, a Fairfax artists who was born in Germany, makes unique, one-of-a-kind monoprints.

"I work in reverse, backwards, upside down and actually welcome unexpected results. It is as if all the rules in creating art that I have subconsciously imposed on myself are gone," she said.

Along with Steiner and Butler, the free exhibit features 10 other painters, photographers and sculptors.

The Marin Arts Council's new gallery is at 906 4th Street in downtown San Rafael. The exhibit will run Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Aug. 28 with a reception on Friday, Aug. 13. The exhibit is free; for more information visit the Marin Arts Council's website.
