Spring concert at historic retreat center in San Rafael features San Domenico Virtuosi

San Domenico Virtuoso Program students will present a spring concert at the Santa Sabina Chapel, including selections from F. J. Haydn, Louise Heritte-Viardot, Therese Blangini, and Felix Mendelssohn with solosts by seniors Nina Pak (violin) and Allie Simpson (viola). Concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, with a reception immediately following. Suggested donation is $20, at the door. Santa Sabina is located at 25 Magnolia Avenue in San Rafael.

Santa Sabina’s Tudor-Gothic Retreat Center was built in 1939 as a house of spiritual formation for the women preparing to join the community of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael. Since 1970, it has welcomed spiritual seekers of all traditions. The Santa Sabina Concert Series offers quarterly afternoon concerts. In October, Kathryn Roszak’s Danse Lumiere presented, “Pensive Spring: A Portrait of Emily Dickinson”. In December, Jacqueline Chew, piano, and Chad Runyon, baritone, performed selections from the Niles-Merton Songs – poems of Thomas Merton set to much by John Jacob Niles. Next October, San Domenico Virtuoso Program alumna Aenea M. Keyes, violin, performs with Michael Graham on cello and Miles Graber on piano in “Full Circle: the Personal and Archetypal”. For more information on the Series, visit www.santasabinacenter.org.
