Friday:  

and continues its summertime tradition of presenting classic, cult favorites and family movies. Bring your picnic dinner, your blankets and get there early to secure a good spot. Tonight’s movie is Fantastic Mr. Fox.

If you go: Arrive by 8 p.m., films begin at dusk at the Central Baseball Field, Broadway Boulevard & Bank Street in Fairfax. There is also a nightly raffle for those who make a donation.

Saturday and Sunday:  

The 34th annual Fairfax Festival is here! This year’s theme is “staying local.” The festival includes a parade, wonderful flea market, creative arts and crafts, delicious food and tasty beverages, kids area with games, face painting, bubble shows, a bouncy house, fantastic music and the 8th annual Eco-Fest!

The parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs from the Java Hut in the old Albertsons parking lot down Center Boulevard to the judging station at the corner of Bolinas Road. From there it travels up Bolinas to Park Road. For more information and a guide to the great music playing the festival, click here.

If you go: The parade is from 10 a.m. to noon and the festival runs from 1 to 5 p.m. The Youth Music Showcase at the Women’s Club on 46 Park Rd. is from 7 to 10 p.m. On Sunday, the festival is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival is at The Pavilion, Elsie Lane, Fairfax and Bolinas Park on Bolinas Road.

Saturday and Sunday:

The Fairfax Ecofest 2011, held alongside the traditional Fairfax Festival, is not to be missed this year! Come up to the Pavilion and share your ideas with local environmental groups, shop for organic goods and services, indulge in organic food, view art, explore our interactive activities -- and there’s a whole field of fun for the kids, too! Don’t miss organic beer and wine tasting featuring a wide variety of local and international producers. New this year: an opportunity to sample cheese, olive oil and chocolate. The Ecofest Music Stage hosts local performers to keep you entertained from noon to 6:30pm.

This year’s festival marks the launch of the much-anticipated . It’s an opportunity to invest in Fairfax and keep that money circulating right here in town. Fairbuck tokens (worth $3) will be sold for $3 each or 7 for $20 both at Ecofest and at the Festival information booth. The tokens are legal to spend in town at participating businesses.

If you go: The EcoFest is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Fairfax Pavillion, Bolinas Road and Elsie Lane in Fairfax.
