Get Out: Patch's Weekend Planner for June 4-5

Saturday:

“Hands Only” CPR can be as effective as traditional methods that require mouth to mouth breathing. The Marin County Emergency Medical Services Agency, in collaboration with local public safety agencies and ambulance providers, is sponsoring several “Hands-Only” CPR training events across the county on Saturday. In just a few minutes anyone that stops by the designated locations can learn these new CPR techniques that can save a life. Last year over 700 people were training in this technique during the one-day event.

If you go: This free training is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and takes place all over Marin. Red Hill Shopping Center is one of the locations on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in San Anselmo.

Friday and Saturday:

The award-winning dance studio from Marin County, RoCo, will be presenting it’s biennial ALICE -- a modernized youth, urban, dance rendition of the bizarre Lewis Carroll tale, Alice in Wonderland. ALICE will showcase 275 selected dancers from RoCo’s various youth dance training programs. Guest performers include professional break dancer Miles Kenedi, RoCo director Annie R. Parr, and Body Language, RoCo's modern dance company. Genres will span everything from hip hop to ballet. Directed by visiting French choreographer, Daisy Stoloff,  ALICE is a one-of-a-kind, colorful and surreal evening length production, filled with humor, physical intensity and drama. Advanced ticket purchase is suggested through the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium’s website.

If you go: Friday night’s performances starts at 8 p.m., Saturdays performance starts at 7 p.m., at the Veteran Memorial Auditorium, 10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael. Tickets are between $19 and $23 and can be bought here. 

Saturday:

The public is invited to tour four private gardens in Mill Valley, San Anselmo, and Tiburon through the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days program. Visitors begin the self-guided tour at any of the participating gardens, where directions to each additional property will be available.

If you go: Admission to each private garden is $5. Open Days are rain or shine, and no reservations are required. The tour is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 1-888-842-2442, or visit opendaysprogram.org for more information.

Saturday:

Thomas Hollowell, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Barefoot Running, will be coming to . In the middle of his national book tour, Thomas comes to visit the home of trail running in the United States; to sign copies of his book and speak about running barefoot. This is Thomas' exclusive speaking engagement in the North Bay, so don't miss him.
