A Movie Theater in San Anselmo; Art Abloom Opens

No new closures, a rumor, and a thought too.

Blooming Again

Art Abloom is Blooming again! On Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, just past the Hub before Red Hill Shopping Center on the west side of the street where once was a fabric store, but has been dormant for some time, is now blooming with life again. Art Abloom very recently moved just a few doors down into the new digs and the place looks great.

Gabriella Spina Drake is the owner and her philosophy about art and the creativity in every human being is a welcome one. Classes are available year-round for children and adults. We wish them the best of luck in the new location.

Big Machines Equals Big Bread

There are more signs of life at the soon to open (not soon enough in this bread lover’s opinion) bakery Pan d’ Ora, toward the south end of San Anselmo just down from the post office. Huge baking machines and racks are going in, tile is going down, and the exterior is getting a bit of a face lift too with trim.

Movie Theater in San Anselmo

I heard that a petition is going around town in hopes that enough interest might open up the opportunity for, or at the very least a discussion about having, a movie theater in downtown San Anselmo. My first thought was that there isn’t nearly enough parking, but it was then pointed out that San Anselmo streets are practically empty in the evening.

Wouldn’t a theater be fabulous? Catch dinner at any one of the great restaurants and then a film all in one fell swoop. Where do I sign?

Speaking of Parking

Here’s a thought. How about switching things around in San Anselmo so that employees use the parking lot off of Magnolia Avenue and along the creek with an all day permit? This would free up so many spaces around town, which would mean more customers could park easily and shop more.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have seen employees parking right in front of their employer's businesses. And it isn’t for loading or unloading, which would be understandable; these folks are eeking out every minute of the two-hour limit and then taking time away from work when the time limit is up to move the car again. And this can happen four times a day! There has to be a better system, especially if it means more commerce.

The Good News

No businesses closed this past week. So thankful.
