Ballet Studio Hopes to Open in Fairfax

And Eden Day Spa prepares new space.

More Dancing in Fairfax

Calling all ballet dancers to Fairfax! A new studio, Studio C, is hoping to open on Nov. 1, but it needs all the help it can get. Claudia Wallace, a resident of Fairfax for seven years, who has three young children (the oldest at ), is putting her professional training and experience to work.

Wallace began dancing under the very strict Russian training known as Vagonva. When she moved to New York City she danced at the School of American Ballet, which is solely the Balachine style. While a member of the American Ballet Theater, Wallace experienced many different dance styles from “Swan Lake to Twyla Tharp all on the same program,” she said.

Not wanting to let any of this training and experience go to waste Wallace has secured a studio in the School Street Complex (where are) and is currently scrubbing the walls and looking for donations to hang full-length mirrors, bars and other necessities for opening the studio. Wallace has been teaching a pre-ballet class through the Fairfax Focas program and has developed quite a following. It's with hope and a little elbow grease that she'll fill the studio with young dancers.

“I want to train dancers to use their bodies correctly, focusing on kinetics and coordination, as well as their anatomy and proper body alignment. With this training, I hope to provide students with a rich knowledge of classical ballet technique. With a proper classical base, students should be able to acquire the ability to adapt to all styles and techniques of dance," she said.

Wallace is asking for donations amount through her blog, which also has more information about the process, the progress and even the budget.

We wish Wallace the very best in pursuing her dream in leading other young dancers to theirs.

Lit Up Chandeliers

s new space next to the in San Anselmo still has the windows covered in paper, but an ornate chandelier can be seen lit up at night and if you peek up at just the right angle you can see a little mini-dome painted in blue sky and fleeting clouds. Flyers were being passed around at yesterday promoting their products and services and the big move is clearly about to happen in the very near future.

Question

What I would like to know is what will become of the space Eden will soon be vacating at 541 San Anselmo Ave., on the corner of San Anselmo Avenue and Magnolia. That whole building will be empty soon and it is Call me crazy, but I would love it if he would tear it down and build a park where folks can gather for picnics, parades, and town-wide events in the center of it all. Mr. Lucas is doing such a beautiful job with the peninsula across from , I am sure he will do something wonderful with this space too.
