January:

The began its extended hours, opening an additional ten hours each week, thanks to the passage of the Library Tax measure. An added benefit of the extra hours was opening the library on Fridays, a day on which the library had historically been closed. The first Monday of the new open hours saw 400 visitors to the library, an unprecedented number! 

February:

Public Works Director Steve Myrter left the town’s employ, and was ably succeeded by Sean Condry. The Library Tax Oversight Committee was formed. 

March:

The volunteers for the Red Hill Dog Park held their Community Work Day, with participants entered into a raffle for a pet portrait. A devastating winter storm hit Marin, dropping nearly five inches of rain on San Anselmo in a short period. .  

April:

The Recreation Department held the and the . The downtown merchants hosted their annual Bunny Hop, with participants finding the hidden colored eggs in participating shops along San Anselmo Avenue to enter a drawing to wine goodie baskets.

May:

The library began the Art Talk Tuesday lecture series in the council chambers.  Volunteer youth commissioners were recruited for a number of boards and commissions. The North Bay Burn Relay came through town with sirens sounding, collecting donations for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.

June:

The town’s Public Works crew began a large project to fill many potholes in town roads, needed because heavy winter rains did considerable damage to the roads.  began the 2011 season with showings of Breakfast Club and National Velvet. The Town Council approved the Five Year Capital Improvement Plan. 

July:

The Picnics on the Plaza event began on Friday evenings, with music, crafts and entertainment for kids. spent three days working on the front garden area of the , pulling weeds, laying down garden fabric and spreading shredded bark in the area. 

August:

The Safe Routes to Schools project began in the neighborhood, funded through federal grant money intended to encourage safe walking and biking to schools. The , with the joint intent of improving services and saving money.

September: 

The Parks & Recreation Commission held a work party at Memorial Park. began with a pancake breakfast at the firehouse, booths and kids’ entertainment, and a parade down San Anselmo Avenue, finishing up with a barbecue and music in Creek Park. The was held at the downtown fire station. 

October:

The Chamber of Commerce held a town council candidate forum at Wade Thomas School. Slurry seal work was done on a number of town streets in good condition to prolong their life. The council . The San Francisco Theological Seminary hosted a walking tour for neighbors interested in their plans to consolidate their operations on their core campus. The marched down San Anselmo Avenue, alive with mini ghosts and goblins. A huge, home-grown pumpkin was on the Town Hall Plaza, prompting a “guess the weight” contest. Downtown merchants decorated the downtown with .

November:

The election was held with . Town Treasurer Bess Niemcewicz and Town Clerk Barbara Chambers won their re-election bids as well. 

December:

Holiday parking in the downtown was free to encourage shoppers in the downtown. The Police and Fire Departments had a toy drive for local families who’ve fallen on hard times. The library announced it would be open the week between the Christmas and New Year holiday, thanks to the Library Parcel Tax. .
