Filling the Town Council Vacancy

The application period to submit an application to be considered for the short term Town Council opening is now open.  This position is for the time period from May 2013 to November 2013, at which time a special election will be held to fill the position for the remainder of the term (two years).  The timeline for application submission, interviews and appointment is as follows:

Thursday, March 28, 2013 Close applications for short term vacancy
Tuesday, April 9, 2013 Town Council to interview applicants, 7 p.m. for current vacancy
Tuesday, April 23, 2013 Select applicant to fill short term vacancy

Applications for the short term vacancy are now available in the Town Hall offices and online at http://www.townofsananselmo.org/index.aspx?nid=692

At the meeting of Tuesday, March 26, the Town Council is scheduled to call for a special election on November 5, 2013, in conjunction with the regularly scheduled Council election, to fill the remaining two-year portion of the term.

Summer is fast approaching and San Anselmo will be host to a number of special summer events again this year.

Film Night in the Park – The public is invited to come out for an evening of film under the stars at Creek Park.  Films are shown on selected Friday & Saturday nights from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Visit www.filmnight.org for the schedule, movie listings and additional information.

San Anselmo Art & Wine Festival  - Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Art & Wine Festival features artists, outstanding food and drinks and great music.  The Chamber of Commerce is proud to showcase San Anselmo’s retail businesses, shops and restaurants.  Visit www.sananselmochamber.org for additional information.

Creekside Q Town Barbecue – Thursday, June 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Creek Park.  Come join your friends, family and neighbors at the Creekside Q, with dinner provided by Insalata’s restaurant and dessert provided by Sweet Cheeses.  The fun includes pie eating, as well as biscuit whistle and apple bobbing contests.  The barbecue is a benefit for the San Anselmo Community Event Fund, which helps cover costs associated with producing the annual egg hunt, Country Fair Day, Picnics on the Plaza and Goblins’ Parade.  Tickets purchased in advance are $15/Adults and $5/kids (5 to 10 years).  Kids 4 and under are free.  Contact the Recreation Department at 258-4640 for additional information or to purchase tickets.

12th Annual Beatles Tribute – Saturday, July 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Creek Park.  Join an evening of fun with live music, a Twist n Shout Dance contest for kids, plus special guests.  $15 Adults/$5 Kids 12 and under.  No credit cards, local checks welcome.  Tickets are available only on the day of the event at Creek Park.  Gates will open for everyone at 4:40 p.m. (no dogs except for service or seeing-eye dogs).  For more information, visit www.sananselmoarts.com or like us at www.facebook.com/SAArtsCommission.

Music in the Park –Sundays, July 21 through August 18, in Creek Park from 1 to 4 p.m. Music in the Park is a free summer concert series, also sponsored by the Arts Commission. 

Picnics on the Plaza – Fridays, August 2 through September 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Town Hall lawn.  Picnics feature music and family fun.  Bring your picnic basket or buy food at the event.

San Anselmo Country Fair Day – Sunday, September 29.  This popular community festival showcases our town with a parade, children’s activities and street booths populated with San Anselmo-based schools, community groups, artisans and shopkeepers.  This fun, collaborative event is produced each year by community volunteers and can only sustain itself if people come forward and take advantage of the MANY ways to get involved.  Booth and parade applications will be available after April 1st.  For more information on how to get involved, please visit the Community tab on the Town’s website:  www.townofsananselmo.org.


SmART Phone Photo Contest

The San Anselmo Arts Commission invites Ross Valley residents to enter their mobile phone photos in the SmART Phone Photo contest for their chance to win cash and prizes.  Amateur photo enthusiasts are invited to explore and capture Marin County from their own unique perspective, showcasing the beauty of living, working and playing in Marin County.  All photos must be taken exclusively from a smart phone.  Suggested photo subjects include animals, architecture, children, food, landscapes, lifestyle, nature, new/events, people, seasons, still life, sunset and travel.

The contest opens Monday, April 1 and ends Tuesday, April 30.  All ages are invited to enter.  Cash prizes will be awarded to winners from three age categories!  First prize, $100, Second prize $50, Third prize $25. Youth Commission Opportunities

The Town of San Anselmo is currently seeking applicants for Youth Commissioner seats on six of the Town's Boards and Commissions. The Arts Commission, Historical Commission, Open Space Committee, Parks & Recreation Commission, Library Advisory Board and Quality of Life Commission are seeking San Anselmo students to join for a term of one year.

Applicants must live in San Anselmo and be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school to be considered. Applications must be received by Thursday, April 25 at 5:00 p.m. For additional information about these opportunities, including how to apply, please go to
