Flood Horn

Recently when testing the Town’s emergency horn, a few people have been caught off guard and startled by the loud blast.  Unfortunately, the horn needs to be tested once a week to ensure its performance during an actual emergency.

The emergency horn was placed in the downtown by design as it needs to be heard by as many people as possible who live and work in San Anselmo.

To ensure that the Town’s Flood Horn will always be ready to send out a warning when needed, it is tested by blasting the horn one time each Friday at approximately 12:00 noon.  We have shortened the blast as much as possible in an attempt to make it less startling.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

News from the Police Department

The Central Marin Police Authority would like to encourage residents to help keep the Town safe.  Here are a number of things residents can do:

• Don’t leave homes or businesses unlocked when unattended.
• Don’t leave vehicles unlocked, keys in the ignition or valuables in plain sight.
• Report suspicious activity or suspicious persons. Try to obtain a description of the person, any vehicles involved and describe what is happening.
• If you feel a person or activity is suspicious, please report it.  Such reporting enables us to contact the person involved and determine whether or not criminal activity is taking place.

In addition, the Police Department recommends using good Neighborhood Watch strategies:

• Make your rear yard as inaccessible as possible to strangers
• Familiarize yourself with people and vehicles that belong in your neighborhood, and when school should be in session
• Report all suspicious or loitering persons and any suspicious vehicles to the 911 emergency dispatcher
• Talk with your trusted neighbors about the hours your family works, trips you’re taking and who should be at home
• When an extended trip is taken, gather each other’s mail and newspapers
• Upgrade your window and door locks and install security lighting
• Consider a reliable home alarm system

The Police Department would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who have assisted us in the past in keeping San Anselmo safe.

If you need to contact the Police Department, please call (415) 927-5150 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Volunteer Receptionists

For the last 20 years the Town has had an active volunteer receptionist program.  These dedicated volunteers staff our front desk in the Town Hall offices on the second floor.  They answer phones, direct visitors and prepare mailings.  We have a wonderful cadre of volunteers who perform this job, either every week, or every other week.  The morning shift is from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and the afternoon shift is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

If you are interested in helping in Town Hall, please call Joan Vermond at 457-9974 or j.vermond@worldnet.att.net.

Fill the Boot

Every year firefighters across the nation team up to fill their boots for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  At busy intersections with heavy motor and foot traffic, firefighters heads out with boots in hand asking citizens to drop a donation of money into their boots to help raise funds for local families living with muscle disease.

The money raised will help find treatment and cures for muscular dystrophy, fund clinics and help send kids to MDA summer camp in the Sonoma coastal redwoods.  Last year the Marin community sent over 50 children to MDA summer camp through the Fill the Boot Drive.

Firefighters have raised over $300 million in support of MDA since 1954.

The Marin Professional Firefighters fifth annual MDA Fill the Boot will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the hub intersection, Sir Francis Drake Blvd. and Red Hill Avenue.
