Eureka! – Walk into the and you may just find that elusive bestseller available to walk-in customers on a first-come, first-served basis. We want to restore the idea of a browsing collection and encourage walk-in library customers. The titles are determined by the top 20 or so titles with the most holds in the MARINet Library system. The Eureka collection checks out for 14 days, with no renewals or holds. The library will purchase two to three copies of high-demand books and will continue to purchase books for the regular collection. Inspired by the concept that “I HAVE FOUND IT!,” come in today to see if The Drop by Connelly, The Affair by Child or The Litigators by Grisham is waiting for YOU.

Saturday lectures – The library begins a Saturday Afternoon Lecture series on Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Join us for An Afternoon in Italy’s Gardens presented by Cathy Edger.

Storytelling - In today’s fast-paced world, storytelling reminds us that spoken words are powerful, that listening is important, and that clear communication between people is an art. On Saturday, Jan. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., the library is hosting its first Storytelling Festival, an opportunity to join together as a community and share a tradition that is as old as humanity itself. We are seeking community members of all ages to listen to and share stories together. Beginner tellers welcome. For more information or to sign up, call the library at 258-4656.

Funds for these programs are provided by the Library Parcel Tax and the Friends of the San Anselmo Library.  For more information, call the library at 415-258-4656 or visit online at sananselmolibrary.org.

Holiday Tree Recycling

Trees will be collected at the curb by Marin Sanitary on your regular yard waste pickup day during the month of January. If trees are greater than six feet in length, please cut them in half. Remove all metal stands, plastic tree bags and ornaments. Sorry, flocked trees cannot be accepted. You may also drop off up to two trees, free of charge, during the month of January, at the Marin Resource Recovery Center located at 565 Jacoby St., San Rafael. Flocked trees are accepted there for a fee.

Please check the newspaper for other drop off sites.

Parkside Preschool

Many residents aren’t aware that the town has its own preschool facility, located in the at 1000 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.

An exciting and rewarding experience awaits your child at Parkside Preschool.  Celebrating 31 years of learning, Parkside offers a developmentally appropriate approach to early education. Children are encouraged to learn through activities that are appropriate to their ages and individual stages of development. The multi-age group provides experiences that enhance the development of each child’s whole self: intellectual, social, creative, and physical.

A special focus on Kindergarten readiness is also provided during our “Pre-K Group Time.” Preschoolers love to learn and our well-rounded program includes: arts, crafts, music, outdoor play, academics, cooking and storytelling. Children learn socialization and communication skills in a fun, warm environment.

Our flexible program allows you to select the days you wish to attend. Parkside is licensed by the State of California (#21010755) and is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Please call (415)258-4644 for more information or to arrange a tour.  Check out our Parkside website.

Garbage Collection Days

With the advent of numerous carts designed for collection of green waste, recycling materials and garbage, taking out the trash on trash day is a bigger job than it once was.

A problem has surfaced in conjunction with the increased number of carts at each residence and business. Town staff has received several complaints about carts that are left out on the curb or in the street all week long, rather than being brought in after pickup.

The San Anselmo Municipal Code, Title 5, Chapter 3, Section 3.03, says in part, “No can or receptacle for receiving garbage shall be placed or kept on or in any public street, alley, sidewalk, footpath, or public place whatsoever.”

Please be courteous to neighbors and passersby by placing your carts such that they do not block sidewalks or street areas and bringing in your carts as soon as practical after they are emptied.
