Ross Valley Sanitary Rate Increase, Potholes and More

Hear about the plans for a sanitary district increase, Golden Gate bridge walkway closures, to fix potholes and a call for collectors.

Ross Valley Sanitary District

The Ross Valley Sanitary District is in order to replace and repair major pipelines in the sewer system. The district consulted with an independent rate study firm to develop an approach to addressing the miles of pipe that need to be replaced or repaired.

At this time, the district proposes a sewer rate change effective July 1, 2011, paid twice a year through your annual property tax bill that will allow them to maintain the current level of service and repair, while still looking to the future.

The district also proposes that any rate increases from the sewage treatment plant, Central Marin Sanitation Agency (CMSA), be passed through to ratepayers when and if they occur.

Residential rates in San Anselmo are proposed to increase from $520 to $697.  Commercial customers are charged based on 1) cost to treat and 2) quantity of wastewater.  The proportional increase for commercial customers will be the same as for residential customers.

For more information on this rate increase, call Brett Richards, General Manager at 259-2949, email to info@rvsd.org, or write Brett Richards, General Manager, Ross Valley Sanitary District, 2960 Kerner Blvd., San Rafael, CA  94901.  The full notice to property owners can be found here. This notice was mailed to all property owners as well.

Protest against the proposed rate change must be submitted in writing by the close of the June 28, 2011 Public Hearing. The written protest must:

1)      State opposition to the proposed rate change;

2)      Identify the affected owner(s) of the property or properties for which the protest is entered;

3)      Include the address or assessor’s parcel number of the affected property; and

4)      Be signed by the affected property owner (Email protests will not be accepted).

If written protests against the proposed sewer service rate change are presented by a majority of owners of parcels affected, the district will not approve the rate change.

Potholes

The town’s public works crew is beginning a project to fill a large number of potholes on town streets. You may see the crew out on the roads marking the potholes for filling this summer. This work is needed because the heavy winter rains have done considerable damage to the roads. Even streets that are slated to be paved in the next several years may need some pothole patching to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

If you want to report a pothole, contact Public Works Supervisor Dave Craig at dcraig@townofsananselmo.org or 258-4601.

Golden Gate Bridge Walkway

The Golden Gate Bridge west sidewalk was closed on Tuesday, May 31 through September for seismic retrofit construction.

Phase 3A of the Bridge's Seismic Retrofit Construction project began in April, 2008. The temporary closure of the sidewalks is required as part of this phase of the project. The work will involve the replacement of the roof of the Marin anchorage housing, of which the bridge sidewalks are a part.

The entire WEST SIDEWALK closed on Tuesday, May 31. The entire west sidewalk will remain closed through September. During this time, bicycles and pedestrians will share the EAST SIDEWALK. The hours of the use of the EAST SIDEWALK are as follows: Bicyclists have access 24 hours/day; Pedestrians have access sunrise to sunset.

Once the WEST sidewalk work is completed (September 2011), work will shift to the EAST sidewalk and only a 300-foot section of the EAST sidewalk will be closed for a four-month period. The entire Phase 3A undertaking is projected to be completed in 2012.

What Do You Collect?

Do you have a collection that you’d like to showcase in the San Anselmo Historical Museum and share with other residents and visitors to town?

People collect so many things – stamps, coins, dolls, jewelry, autographs, marbles, vinyl records, sports cards, bottles, radios, toys – the list is never ending. Last December, Tom and Faye Hendricks displayed their collection of Santas, and Judy Coy’s egg cup collection is currently on display in the hallway in the lower level of the Library. What fun it is to see these unique collections!

If you have a collection you are willing to loan for display, please contact the Museum’s docents at info@sananselmohistory.org or leave a message at 258-4659.
