Five locations were approved for upgrades that include new sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic signal improvements, ADA compliant curb ramps, safety barriers, and traffic calming measures. The projects, which are listed below, are in the conceptual design and review phase. Implementation is scheduled to take place during the summer of 2013.

Street Maintenance News

The town utilizes a pavement management software system to rate systematically each of our streets with respect to its pavement condition. This is done through an independent engineer who is employed to visually inspect every street in San Anselmo and assign a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) number to each street. This process is a requirement of the State of California and must be done every three years.

The PCI number is based on a scale of 1 to 100, with a one denoting pavement that is very poor and 100 representing a newly paved street. Our last PCI report was done in 2010. The PCI report is posted on the town's website.

San Anselmo streets are recommended for treatment by the Public Works Director based upon their PCI number. The lower the PCI number, the more the street is in need of treatment. Another factor that is utilized is grouping of streets in neighborhoods to achieve economy of scale.

The Public Works Director’s recommendations for the next five years were presented to the Capital Program Monitoring Committee, a committee made up of six residents and two Town Councilmembers. The committee reviewed the recommendations, made suggestions for changes, heard testimony from neighbors and made recommendations to the San Anselmo Town Council for upcoming paving projects. The town council then approved the five-year plan.

The result of that process is the Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan, which can be found at online.
