San Anselmo Historical Museum

The San Anselmo Historical Museum houses an ever-expanding collection of photos, memorabilia and historical records highlighting San Anselmo history and the town’s notable people, neighborhoods, businesses, celebrations and events.  Pick up a booklet of San Anselmo walking tours, view photographs and special displays of local historical interest, watch videotapes and listen to oral histories.  Learn about the days of the Miwok Indians, the founding of the San Francisco Theological Seminary and the glory days of the railroad – the industry that put San Anselmo on the map.  The museum also offers a Children’s corner, with crayons and San Anselmo-themed coloring books.

Also available in the museum is the newly-published book San Anselmo.  The book is part of Arcadia Publishing’s popular Images of America series and features 215 vintage images of San Anselmo.  Additional information is available at info@sananselmohistory.org.

The Historical Museum is located on the first floor of the Library, at 110 Tunstead Avenue, 258-4659.  It is open on Tuesday’s, from 10 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 1:30 – 4 p.m.  On the first Saturday of the month hours are expanded to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Museum’s website can be found at www.sananselmohistory.org.

San Anselmo Tax Rebate

San Anselmo property owners with a financial hardship due to unemployment, a catastrophic emergency, or low income are invited to apply for a rebate of the Town’s Municipal Services (also called “General Purpose”), Pension Override and Library Parcel Taxes.

The rebate program defines low income as below $24,646 for a one-person household, $28,147 for a two-person household, $31,683 for a three-person household, and $35,184 for a four-person household.  Rental property is not eligible to be considered for the rebate program.

The Town of San Anselmo’s Tax Equity Board reviews the applications, which must be filed by Monday, April 29, 2013.

For more information and application forms, please stop by the Administration Office on the second floor of Town Hall or contact Daria Carrillo at 258-4678.

Distracted Driver Month

Distracted driving is a serious traffic safety concern that puts everyone on the road at risk. As a result, law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Central Marin Police Authority, are increasingly cracking down on cell phone use and texting.

Drivers who use hand-held devices are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves. Younger, inexperienced drivers under 20 years old have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes. In addition, studies show that texting while driving can delay a driver’s reaction time just as severely as having a blood alcohol content of a legally drunk driver.

Studies show there is no difference in the risks between hands-free and hand-held cell phone conversations, both of which can result in “inattention blindness” which occurs when the brain isn’t seeing what is clearly visible because the drivers’ focus is on the phone conversation and not on the road.

“Turn off your phone and put it out of reach as you get into the car,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety. “Think before you call or text someone. If there is a chance they may be driving, let it wait. It’s not worth it.”

San Anselmo News, published weekly on Fridays, is available at the San Anselmo Town Hall, Library, on the Public Notice Bulletin Board. It is also available on the Town’s website, www.townofsananselmo.org, and by email subscription.
