Weeds and Bushes in Sidewalk Areas

A gentle reminder: Maintenance of sidewalk areas are the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. We receive many complaints about bushes and other foliage blocking sidewalk areas. If you have a sidewalk that is partially blocked, please take a moment to clear the vegetation to ensure pedestrians can safely pass.

In addition, adjacent property owners are responsible to maintain the parkway areas of sidewalks. That is the dirt space between the sidewalk and the curb. Many parkway areas are beginning to be covered with weeds at this time of year. If you have parkway space that is filled with weeds, please consider taking the time to cut them down. Your assistance is much appreciated.

MMWD Pipeline Replacement Work

The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) will be installing 4,350 feet of pipeline—more than 4/5 of a mile—in San Anselmo to replace pipes that have reached the end of their useful life and to improve the overall reliability of the water distribution system.

The water district will be replacing 4- and 6-inch cast iron and galvanized threaded pipe dating to between 1903 and 1952. The oldest section of pipeline being replaced pre-dates the formation of MMWD, which is celebrating its centennial this year. The new pipe will be 6-inch welded steel and polyvinyl chloride pipe.

Pipelines to be replaced are located in the following streets:

  • Idalia Road between Crescent Road and Idalia Court
  • Cedar Street between Tunstead Avenue and Woodland Avenue
  • Oak Crest Road between The Alameda and Quail Way
  • The Alameda between Holstein Road and Arroyo Avenue
  • Barber Avenue between Wellington Avenue and Prospect Avenue
  • Magnolia Avenue between San Anselmo Avenue and Cedar Street

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 12 and to be completed by mid-June. Both the contractor and MMWD will make every effort to minimize traffic disruptions during construction.

Food Scraps in the Green Can

Marin Sanitary Service has a great residential food scrap composting program.  Following is the list of acceptable food scraps

Meat and poultry
Vegetables
Napkins
Dairy products
Egg shells
Waxed paper and waxed cardboard
Cooking oils & grease
Coffee grounds
Paper towels
Fats
Pizza boxes
Paper plates
Fruit

Here are the items that are not compostable

Non-organic items
Foil
Hazardous waste
Liquids or juices
Animal waste
Motor oil
Glass
Styrofoam
Milk or beverage cartons
Plastic
Diapers

It’s easy. Just designate a “Food Compost” container for your kitchen, post the list of acceptable food scraps, empty it often into your green can, and remember to put your green can out by the curb every week.
