Refuse and Recycling News

Green Carts – Last week upcoming changes to the Town’s green waste program were reported.  Marin Sanitary proposes to continue with the weekly pickup of 224 gallons of green waste, but has asked to amend the Town’s contract to provide that customers who want to utilize the full amount of green waste request additional green carts for a rental fee, currently set at $1.78/month.  Customers may request an additional three green carts, to get up to and actually exceed, the current 224 gallons.  This change is expected to be effective September 1.  Two items of note on this topic, however, are:

Marin Sanitary customers may choose to rent the extra green cans for one month periods – it does not have to be an ongoing commitment.

• IMPORTANT:  The Town Council is going to revisit this topic at the meeting of Tuesday, June 11, 2013, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.  If you want to speak on the issue of green carts, please come down to the meeting or send me your comments via email.

Free On-Call Cleanups – Marin Sanitary provides two on-call pick-ups during each calendar year for residential customers at no additional charge for either:  2 cubic yards of solid waste or the equivalent of fourteen 32 gallon bags; or 1 cubic yard of solid waste or the equivalent of seven 32 gallon bags and 1 bulky item (which means items that are too large to be placed in a can, such as large household appliances, furniture, carpets, mattresses and similar large items that require special handling due to their size).  Call Marin Sanitary at 456-2601 for more information or to schedule a pickup.

Intensive Recycling – Marin Sanitary has an Intensive Recycling Program with pickup of one 20-gallon container every other week for qualified customers.  To qualify, residential customers must complete a program application and agree to the program criteria as outlined on the application.  Program applications are available at http://www.townofsananselmo.org/documents/12/25/intensive_recycling_application.PDF or at Town Hall.  Contact Carla Kacmar at ckacmar@townofsananselmo.org or 258-4691 for more information.

San Anselmo from the Air

The San Anselmo Historical Commission invites you to see a new display of photographs in the hallway outside the Historical Museum on the lower level of the Library. The images show the town from the air as it was in the 1930s, 1950s, and 1960s. They provide an interesting look at the road configuration at the Hub and the development of neighborhoods in San Anselmo and surrounding areas.
The Commission is indebted to the Marin History Museum for providing images from the Brady Collection of Aerial Photographs and to Pacific Aerial Surveys, a division of Photo Science in Emeryville, for providing images from their archives.
