Tips from Zero Waste Marin
Spring is a great time to think about embracing new habits in our households. Zero Waste Marin and the Town of San Anselmo want to pass along a few tips to help families recycle and reduce waste this spring.
Smart Shopping—Make a shopping list and stick to it. Whether you’re heading to the farmers market or your local supermarket, you’ll avoid impulse purchases and save money!
BYOBag—Add a reminder to bring your own reusable shopping bag to your shopping list. Simple actions like this keep waste out of our landfill. Keep a reusable shopping bag in your car for any unplanned trips.
Reusable Containers—Use reusable containers and cloth napkins to pack your family’s food and beverages. Whether you’re going for a hike on Mt. Tam, heading to the park for the afternoon or packing a school lunch, reusable containers are the best way to hold snacks for the trip.
Food Waste Composting—Remember that food scraps, including eggshells and chicken bones, can go right into your green cart. Food-soiled paper napkins, pizza boxes and coffee filters belong in the green cart as well. The contents of your green cart are then sent to a composting facility and turned into rich soil.
This season, let’s work together to keep San Anselmo and Marin beautiful and thriving. For more information about other actions you and your family can take to reduce waste, visit www.ZeroWasteMarin.org.
San Anselmo News, published weekly on Fridays, is available at the San Anselmo Town Hall, Library, and on the Public Notice Bulletin Board. It is also available on the Town’s website, www.townofsananselmo.org, and by email subscription.
