San Anselmo: Town Safety Warnings, 2014 Town Council Meetings, Town Hall Office Hours, and Discover and Go Museum Pass Program

Town Safety Warnings

The Town continues to receive numerous complaints regarding speeding cars, particularly in neighborhoods around our schools.  The problem is particularly pronounced around school start and stop times, exactly when speeding is especially problematic as it is when our children are making their way to and from school on bikes and on foot.

We continue to hear from residents about speeding issues, as well as poor driving habits, such as not stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks, rolling through stop signs and general inattention.  Residents report that these poor driving habits are widespread and very scary for pedestrians, bicyclists and other drivers.

We all need to do our part to help solve this problem in our community.  Here are a few tips that may help:

·         Leave several minutes early for your destination so that you don’t feel the need to rush.

·         Stop completely at stop signs; don’t assume that someone isn’t going to be coming from another direction.

·         When driving through residential neighborhoods, respect the fact that speeding through these areas endangers pedestrians, children and pets.

·         Respect the neighborhoods around schools; drive carefully and park legally.

·         Don’t believe that this is somebody else’s problem – we all need to be part of the solution.

Please help me pass this important message along to others in our community.

Town Hall Office Hours

Town Hall is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  We are closed to the public on Fridays, although we are here working.

There is an important exception to those hours, however.  The Planning, Building and the Public Works Departments are available to the public in the mornings only.  If you need assistance from Planning/Building/Public Works, please come to the offices in the morning.

The reason for limiting the hours in Planning/Building/Public Works is an important one for everyone to understand.  In those departments, staff members spend virtually all their time in the morning assisting customers at the counter with issues around planning requirements, permit questions, plan review and plan checking.

Limiting the hours that we are open for these questions allows our staff to spend their time in the afternoon processing the projects that are submitted for approval.  This includes making site visits, writing staff reports, meeting with applicants with special issues and conducting plan reviews.

The Administration and Finance Department is open to the public in the afternoon to assist customers with business licenses and questions not related to the Planning/Building/Public Works issues.

We recognize that it may be inconvenient for our customers to be limited to these hours.  On the plus side, this change has made a considerable difference in our ability to process projects, getting them into the construction phase more quickly.

Discover and Go Museum Pass Program

Looking for something fun, educational, and free to do with the family? Have guests coming into town and want to show off the area’s cultural highlights? The San Anselmo Public Library subscribes to Discover & Go --an exciting new service providing library cardholders with free passes to local museums and cultural institutions.

A first of its kind, Discover & Go provides access to passes that can be printed online rather than traditional physical passes that must be picked up and returned to the Library. Each Discover & Go pass expires immediately after the reservation date – no returns required and no possibility for overdue fines! This unique program allows library users to make reservations online by date or by venue and immediately print out a pass or print later for free at the Library. Customers without Internet access can reserve a pass by telephone or in person.

Library cardholders can reserve up to two passes at one time from institutions such as the Asian Art Museum, the Cartoon Art Museum, Aquarium of the Bay, The Contemporary Jewish Museum and many more. Visit our library homepage for details-- http://www.townofsananselmo.org/index.aspx?nid=133

San Anselmo News, published weekly on Fridays, is available at the San Anselmo Town Hall, Library, and on the Public Notice Bulletin Board. It is also available on the Town’s website, www.townofsananselmo.org, and by email subscription.
