Get Out: Patch's Weekend Planner for May 27-30

Are you looking for something nearby to do this Memorial Weekend? Check out some of the things on the San Anselmo-Fairfax Patch Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Monday:

The American Legion Post 179 is hosting its annual Memorial Day Celebration at the Log Cabin. There will be a free bbq and live music plus all vets get their first drink free with military ID. The Women's Auxiliary will also be hosting a bake sale to raise money to send care packages to troops overseas. There will be an art show throughout the building with patriotic art by service men and civilians, with all the art work up for sale. The Dugout Bar will be open to the public all day -- the bar is for adults 21 and over, but kids are welcome in the hall and outside.

If you go: The celebration is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Log Cabin, 120 Veterans Place in San Anselmo. The Dugout is a cash only bar and outside alcohol is not allowed. For more information call (415) 456-0834.

The Marin County United Veterans Council will hold their annual Memorial Day services on honoring those who gave their lives in the service of our country. The service, which is free to the public, will be at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium at Marin Civic Center. The service will include band music, a Junior ROTC marching group, a military vehicle display and a wreath-laying service at the base of the memorials on Avenue of the Flags. Coffee and doughnuts will be served afterward. Guest speaker will be Col. John Lipinski of Travis Air Force Base.

If you go: Services begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

Put your training to the test and run one of the fastest 10K courses in the Bay Area. The Marin 10K is a flat, certified loop that kicks into high gear for a dramatic finish in the College of Marin stadium. Or challenge yourself to a walk, run, or racewalk in the Don Ritchie 5K. And don't forget the very popular and fun Youth Track Races for kids 12-and-under!

If you go: There are three ways to enter: (1) by mail; (2) online; and (3) in person on the morning of the race, between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. Registration is $35, Youth Track Races are $5. A parent or guardian's signature is required for all entrants under 18. Registration is at the tennis courts at College of Marin, 835 College Ave. in Kentfield. The race starts next to Woodlands Market.

The Virtuoso Program at is going out with a bang! The Orchestra da Camera performs in collaboration with the San Domenico Singers, Primary School Challenge Choir, and the Primary School Orchestra. With works by Villa-Lobos, Bloch, Rossini, Rutter, and Whitacre, and soloist Allie Simpson.

If you go: This free concert takes place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Bettye Poetz Ferguson Hall in the Conservatory's Hall of the Arts at San Domenico School, 1500 Butterfield Rd. in San Anselmo.
