Grab and Go Kids Planner: March 30-April 3

In this week's edition of our kid-friendly planner, we've picked five great family activities and events for the week.

MARIN COUNTY BAKESALE FOR JAPAN 

Find out what's happening in San Anselmo-Fairfaxwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Where/When: Marin County Mart, 2257 Larkspur Landing Circle, Larkspur; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Because your kids want to be involved and that’s a good thing. Help by making some yummy baked goods to sell at the Mart. Or if you don’t feel like baking, why not go over and buy something delicious. All proceeds go to Peace, Winds, Japan (you can drop off the goodies after 8 a.m.).

LAKE LAGUNITAS

Where/When: Sky Oaks Road, Fairfax; open daily

Why Go: The kids are ready for a hike (and so are you). This time of year is the perfect time to walk around the lake. The kids can search out salamanders and newts, or watch the awesome birds. Take a deep breath. Ahhhh.

Pricing: Free

GREEN ARTS FESTIVAL

Where/When: San Geronimo Valley Community Center, 6350 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., San Geronimo; Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m.

Why Go: Because you want to support Drake High students celebrating the Earth. The kids will love the art and music. And it’s all Earth-centric. Think Green.

Pricing: $5 for kids 18 and under; $15 for those over 19, $10 in advance. (415) 488-8888

SLEEPING BEAUTY 

Where/When: Playhouse, 27 Kensington Rd., San Anselmo; Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: There’s something about this ballet that kids love, and why not? Could it be the lovely princess and lavish costumes? Or maybe it’s the fairies and magic spells? Tutus too.

6TH ANNUAL YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL

Where/When: Lark Theater, 549 Magnolia Ave., Larkpsur; Sunday 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Because these young auteurs have real talent. Twenty-nine short films (11 minutes or under) have been accepted for this year’s festival. Check out what the future looks like.

Pricing: $10. (Advanced tickets recommended.)

Where/When: Scottsdale Pond, Redwood Blvd./Rowland Blvd., Novato; Saturday, 8 a.m.

Why Go: This hands-on fishing clinic for kids is bound to be fun. Learn how  to cast and tie fishing knots; then with the free rod provided for you, go fishin’. Best geared for kids ages 8-12, but all are welcome.

Pricing: Free, but come early to register and beat the crowds (the first group starts at 8 a.m. and the last begins at 11 a.m.).  This event happens rain or shine. (415) 899-8250.
