Great Escape: Wine Country Getaways

No need to go far to get to paradise, take in some wine country for a quick getaway from it all.

You're a busy parent -- always driving kids to and from practice, watching their school plays, organizing Brownie troops. It's Ski Week, you deserve a break too. Check out our Great Escapes every Wednesday to find a great escape for you!

The mustard is in full bloom and wine country is absolutely magical this time of year, take a drive and fill all your senses to the brim with short getaways in our own backyard. 

Grab a picnic at the Oakville Grocery on your way up to Calistoga, where you can spend a day in the wonderfully warm pools at Indian Springs after taking a mud bath or getting a treatment at their spa. Or stay a little closer to home and stroll around Sonoma’s downtown square. Incredible kitchen shops, amazing art galleries, with a break for lunch at , then a tour of the mission and sweets galore at The Chocolate Cow and one’s day is complete.

Or take in Napa which has become an incredible restaurant mecca for Food Network stars like Tyler Florence and Masaharu Morimoto, who have opened up beautiful and delicious restaurants overlooking the new River Walk. Or keep it really local and wander around the , where you can taste and take home amazing local and imported foods and kitchen crafts. Try and buy cheeses and sip a variety of fabulous wines at the Cheese & Wine Merchant and Wine Bar, or let oysters tickle your taste buds at Hog Island Oyster Co. Try locally-pressed olive oils, enjoy fresh Mexican food, Italian pizzas, hand-crafted cupcakes, incredible maize creations, amazing spices, charcuterie and even burgers and fries, there is really something for everyone.
