Brockbank Cedes San Rafael City Council Race to Bushey Lang

The former councilman confirmed making a concession call to apparent winner Maribeth Bushey Lang.

With the final votes trickling in, aclose San Rafael City Council election is apparently over.

Greg Brockbank told Patch on Friday that he’s ceded the election to Maribeth Bushey Lang.

Brockbank trails Bushey Lang by 230 votes in the most recent tally, but he acknowledged in an interview with Patch that there aren’t enough outstanding provisional and mail-in votes to catch up.

“I guess that’s it,” Brockbank said.

About 2,500 uncounted votes remained after election night, of which all but 500 or so were counted on Nov. 8.

Brockbank said he made a concession call to Bushey Lang last week when it became apparent to him he had “zero chance” after the first round of outstanding ballots were counted.

“I called Maribeth to congratulate her and wish her well,” Brockbank said.

The latest count was released by the Marin County Elections Department on Friday afternoon.

Brockbank said he’s not considering a recount.

He served on the Marin County Advisory Committee for more than six years and said he has confidence in the county’s election officials’ integrity and competence.

“I really trust their procedures,” Brockbank said.

Bushey Lang finished second in the council race to appointed incumbent Kate Colin, who won easily with 34.5 percent of the vote. The election featured four candidates vying for two open seats.

Randy Warren finished fourth with 17.3 perecent of the vote.

Brockbank left the door open to future runs for public office.

Brockbank’s political career includes serving four years on the San Rafael City Council and 18 years on the College of Marin Board of Trustees.

“It’s hard to imagine what else I’ll run for because I’ve been an elected official for 22 years,” he said.
