Gearing Up for the Fairfax Festival and EcoFest

The Fairfax Festival has always been a great way to kick off the summer.  This popular event brings people from all over the bay area to enjoy great local music.

Ecofest.  Ten years ago, EcoFest was added to bring the “green” to the festival.  Located in the Pavilion and the ball park, Ecofest showcases environmentally conscious organizations and businesses, and offers fun and educational activities for kids of all ages.

Among the many activities, your kids can make eco-friendly Father’s Day cards and other sustainable crafts, or learn about raising and caring for composting worms.  Don’t miss Sustainable Fairfax’s  EcoFashion project, where old t-shirts and trash make “high fashion” clothing.

Begin the weekend Ecofest festivities with Film Night in the park, presenting Chasing Ice, a Sundance film festival winner, at the Central Ball Field on Friday at 8pm.

EcoFest will be open from 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.   The festival still needs volunteers, so please sign up here to help out.  It’s a great way to meet interesting people and have some fun.

Reduce the carbon footprint of the event.

  • Walk or ride your bike!   A bicycle valet service will assist you with parking and securing your bike.
  • Be sure to check out the Zero Waste stations implemented by Sustainable Fairfax and learn about what waste goes where.  Last year we had an impressive 94% landfill diversion rate for the festival.
  • Better yet, please avoid creating unnecessary waste.  Bring your own water bottles!  There will be free water filtration stations at the festival provided by US Pure Water.

Be sure to drop by the Sustainable Fairfax table at EcoFest and say hello.  Learn about our current projects and pick up a bookmark listing our Summer events.

Sustainable Fairfax wishes everyone a fun and safe weekend!
