Biking to Work - Do You?

When you head to work or school, do you ride a bike sometimes? We'd like to hear from you why you ride or don't ride.

It's Bike to Work Day in Marin -- and I believe in the rest of the Bay Area as well. I checked the League of American Bicyclists website and it looks like the national bike to work day is May 20, but around here it's today: May 12. Did you notice more bikes around the Ross Valley on your commute today? Perhaps you were one of the , enjoying the treats and support along the way.

Riding a bike around the Ross Valley is, for the most part, a great pleasure. I do it daily to work, around with my kids, sometimes to the store. For the most part, people are cautious and respectful, especially when I have my kids with me. There's traffic of course, especially in the mornings. But, I guess I'm used to it. I rode my bike for many years around San Francisco, so in comparison the Marin riding I do seems pretty tame.

I see lots and lots of recreational cyclists in Fairfax and San Anselmo, especially on weekends. But, I've noticed far fewer people who are obviously cycling for transportation. I think I know most of the bike commute regulars from years of riding around and being on the ferry together. We can't number more than 100.

So tell us, do you ride your bike to work or school on a semi-regular basis? If you do, tell us why and what would make it an even better choice. If you don't, tell us why not and if there's anything in particular that would need to change for you to consider it.
