Tam District Board Meeting Recap

A brief recap of the October 24 TUHSD Board of Trustees meeting, including information about discussion items and photos from the night.

TUHSD's Board of Trustees held the October 24 board meeting at Sir Francis Drake High School.  Despite being held on a rainy evening at the same time as the first game of the World Series (go Giants!), we had a fairly good-sized crowd.

As always, generous Drake families provided us with an array of delicious baked goodies.

Board meeting agendas have many components, so we will just recap some of the discussion items in this post; however, if you are interested in seeing the full agenda or reviewing the back-up materials, please go to our Agenda Online website (http://tamusd.csbaagendaonline.net) and click on the "Meetings" link to see to our board meeting agendas and their attachments.

Principal Liz Seabury introduced the first discussion item which was an update on the Drake garden project.  Assistant Principal Chad Stuart and senior (and student trustee) Maya Normandi provided the Board of Trustees with an excellent review of the progress that has been made--and the amazing number of vegetables grown--in the garden.

The Board of Trustees also approved the request to name the garden the "Barbara McCune Memorial Garden" in honor of the late college/career counselor.  Mrs. McCune was an avid gardener who was also the first advisor to the Drake Garden Club.  The proposed mural for the garden wall was also approved.

The garden mural was designed by art teacher Martha Cederstrom with input from students and staff.  Ms. Cederstrom serves as the current advisor to the Garden Club.  The mural will be painted by Drake students.

Trustees also heard a detailed report about "Pirate Day" activities which were conducted on the first day of school.  Principal Liz Seabury, Assistant Principal Eric Saibel, teachers Kendall Galli, Alison Waters, Jasper Thelin, John Hayden, and students Amelia Buckley and Juliet Nolan described the various activities which were all linked to the P.I.R.A.T.E.S. acronym:

  • Passion
  • Integrity
  • Reflection
  • Attitude
  • Teamwork
  • Empathy
  • Scholarship

The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at Tamalpais High School in Classroom 2020 (Rm. 300).  The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.  We hope to see you there!

I went to the Smashburger in Novato & have to say that it was a disappointing experience. TheRead More burger was very mediocore & the onion rings were awful-very greasy. The staff were not friendly & operated with a "Bambi in the headlights" look about them. I do wish Smasburger luck in their locations. However, from my perspective there is a good deal of work that still needs to be done with the food, staff & service. At this time, "In & Out" Burger is a "hand's down favorite...thanks
