My Face-to-Face with Steve Burdo

In preparation for tomorrow's San Anselmo town council election, a few weeks ago I requested meetings with a few of the candidates.   I was amazed at how quickly Steve Burdo made himself available to meet with me at Peet's Coffee.   It's rare for me to be so vocal about politics, however I was so impressed with Steve, I now feel compelled to share my experience.   I did not know Steve before my meeting with him.

In my opinion an ideal San Anselmo is one that is both a quiet and beautiful place to live but also has a vibrant and social local town center.  I value San Anselmo as a walkable and bikeable town that is a safe and friendly place to raise kids.   After hearing Steve talk about his vision for San Anselmo I felt he shares many of these goals.

Most of all, I was extremely impressed with Steve's polite intelligence, knowledge of San Anselmo issues and his genuine concern for San Anselmo citizens and quality of life issues. I found him to be an approachable, friendly and selfless public servant who intends to actively solicit input from his constituents. Instead of deciding issues based on his own beliefs, interests and agenda, I found him as someone who has a true desire to collaborate with San Anselmo residents in neighborhood meetings he plans to organize.

In a followup email from Steve he stated the following, "As a way to improve communications between the Town and our residents, I intend to host monthly meetings with residents in each of San Anselmo's neighborhoods. These meetings would allow me to inform the residents of each neighborhood what is going on at the Town level, and they in turn can inform me about what issues need to be addressed in their neighborhood. I believe that hosting these monthly meetings will allow us as a community to discuss and address many of the issues that are prevalent in our neighborhood, and bring people together to build a stronger community."   In my opinion, this sort of open communication is invaluable for our town and exactly the way I believe democracy should work.

For these reasons, I hope you will join me in supporting Steve Burdo for San Anselmo town council. This election is anticipated to have a low turnout but I'm hoping like-minded citizens will turn out the vote for Steve Burdo, since this will make a huge difference.
