Gold Stars for Friends of the Library

Have you seen the gold star balloons at the Fairfax Branch Library?  They are here to thank our Friends of the Library.  If you’re a Friend, we thank you too!

Over the past 10 years, Fairfax Friends of the library has purchased more than $40,000 in furniture and materials for the library.  Some of the items include a new table outside where patrons can use wi-fi while we’re closed, and shades for our windows.  Sitting in our bay windows in the afternoon used to be a blinding (and hot) experience.  Now patrons can pull a shade for a cooler and glare-free experience.  In addition, Friends pays for a majority of the programs we hold at the library.  We just completed a very successful summer reading program, with 352 children signing up in Fairfax.  Children who read during the summer helped maintain their reading skills while earning prizes paid for by Friends of the Library.

This week is National Friends of the Library week, and we have decorated the library with gold balloons indicating the many items Friends have purchased for us.
