The Next Chapter

The Next Chapter of a 60 Year Old Woman

As I sit here on my bed at 11:33am I know that many people would be envious. I am “retired.” What does that mean? I gave up a high powered stressful job last June. I am lucky enough to forego the salary in exchange for a huge medical insurance payment. In exchange for sleeping in, being my own boss, having all the time in the world. So far I cringe as I count the months that have gone by during which I have accomplished nothing.

What did I expect? Many books will tell you there is a passion awaitin’ that you couldn’t accomplish while working 9-5. It is there - you just have to do some soul searching to find it. Well, I’m one of those that has not found her passion in all her 60 years and finally accepted that I may not have one, or two, or three. My sister says that if she were retired she’d have many passions to add to her already existing passions. This line of thought can make one feel worse than one already does. My niece says become a docent (why would they want me? I don’t have a background in art); work on an organic farm (how much can I bend?); join an art collecting club (my walls are all taken).

This is the next chapter of my life but I’m finding it difficult to fill the pages.
