A Lesson On Aggression

Ugh. How do y'all deal with aggressive drivers? I was tempted to call out a driver I encountered this morning on the 101 by posting their car model and license plate number here, but that's probably too nasty and passive aggressive ... Thoughts?

Ugh, I feel your pain. First response is to react angrily, but just like with children, showing your anger just models your loss of control. So....I usually just give them a quiet smirk, so as to say, "wow, nice dumb@$$ move there, Jack." If THEY get angry with me, I remain calm and quietly tell them they have issues. If they keeping going on, I remain calm and try not to react at all. . .that pisses them off even more. I win! - and go about my day.

As for posting someone's plate #, I personally wouldn't do that. People are crazy and there's no telling what they will do.... No reaction is still a reaction.

@ Syrah - totally agree with you - No reaction is still a reaction. Do NOT list the plates - showed good restraint Jessica. And thanks Syrah - I benefited from reading your comparison to interacting with children as I do not wish to model losing control when the passing feeling of anger surfaces. Here is an oppty for Mindfulness. Rising and falling and passing away. good day and just bring on the aggressive driver. We are ready to respond by NOT....

I love it and agree with you both. "No reaction is still a reaction" is so true. Some of the commenters on the FB page also made a similar point -- there's no reason you should let their bad day and negative energy ruin your day. It's all about your personal mindset, and I had, unfortunately, encountered that aggressive driver when I was already in a bad mood.

It's hard and every time a moron pulls a lamebrain move in traffic, the will is tested. Sure you might want to wring their neck, but in the end it feels so much better to have self control. Control can be cultivated with diligence, but it take some mindful practice. Moron drivers aint going anywhere.... ;)
