The press is having a field day with revelations about the 17-year-old local suspect in the theft of and a series of crimes related and incidental.
Leading the charge is the , with several investigative articles on Max Michael Wade's past brushes with law enforcement. Even the AP story cites the Marin IJ, even though they call Wade "the teen from tony Marin County" (see Press Democrat pick-up of the feed).
Yesterday the IJ exposed some of the results of the storage shed search, including the following:
Investigators also found false identification cards for California, Florida and New York, local police scanner coordinates and a full San Francisco Police Department uniform with a badge and duty belt, sheriff's Detective Greg Garrett said in an affidavit.
That article also outlined how police tracked down the , by finding the cycle shop in San Francisco that sold him the helmet and black cycling gear, getting an image from the store's surveillance tape, and then a positive ID from the shooting's targets.
Those in the pickup truck included Landon Wahlstrom, a 2011 Redwood High graduate, and a 17-year old girl that, according to , was the subject of a Facebook jealousy argument.
Today's story in the Marin IJ outlines several instances when Wade, a San Rafael resident, had encounters with police over incidents including breaking into a vacant mansion in Tiburon and hosting a "a drinking bash there for dozens of teenagers."
Police had other prior interactions with Wade, including one case where he allegedly stole his mother's car and repainted it, and another where he allegedly head-butted a fellow student during a dodgeball game in gym class at Redwood High School, sources said.
The previously cited Patch article also mentioned an incident with Wade was only 13 and, allegedly, stole a bottle of vodka from a local liquor store.
Although Wade remains in custody in Juvenile Hall with a $2 million bail, he has yet to enter a plea. That would be expected when he returns to court in a week, on May 10, with his lawyer Charles Dresow.
We're just speculating, but the story of Max Wade has Hollywood written all over it.
Let me guess your shaking your head saying No! It's Wade's serious and recent crimes that beyond a doubt determine his psychotic nature! Yes, Wade did not make good choices. He obviously felt the need to intimidate others (by shooting the car of the girl he liked and her boyfriend- Attempted homicide? I doubt it. This is the guy who can jack a million dollar car off the showroom floor.) Max Wade didn't kill anyone. He shot at someone's car to scare the two teenagers inside, he stole expensive things, and he had the right outfit to pretend he was a cop. Maybe he could be described as a accomplished criminal but he wasn't smart about his crimes. He talked about his crimes. He threw a loud party in an abandoned house. Maybe he wanted to be caught. This guy is most likely going to go to jail. He will have a long record. So get informed Wade's a teenager who pulled off some dangerous heists. Not a sadistic psychopath.
"he ought to be treated like all psychopaths and removed from society until some sort of cure can be ascertained." where do you think we keep all of society's psychopaths?
He also provided fake id's to children who could but alcohol and drive. This loser deserves everything he gets!
I guess the kid already has his followers.
