1-Acre Fire Near Fairfax Fully Contained

By Bay City News

Firefighters fully contained a remote wildfire Saturday evening that burned about an acre of a hilly area above Fairfax in Marin County, a fire battalion chief said.
Marin County fire Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said fire crews first responded to a report of a fire in the trees along the Bolinas-Fairfax ridgeline between Kent and Alpine lakes just after 9 p.m. on Friday.
Fire crews worked throughout the night fighting the "Bolinas Fire" in a rugged watershed area near Fairfax-Bolinas Road, Giannini said.
Cool temperatures Friday night and light winds today helped firefighters tame the blaze in the tough, dry terrain, Giannini said.

The chief said that the conditions firefighters encountered were similar to what they would expect to see during the summer months.
Giannini also said the area's dense vegetation made it "difficult to access and subsequently extinguish all of the hot spots."
At one time during the firefighting efforts, 75 firefighters from agencies around Marin County and Calfire were at the scene, according to the chief.
The California Highway Patrol, Marin County Sheriff's Office and the Marin Municipal Water District assisted the fire crews.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Giannini said.
